SmartTown™ Is Now Available to All FlashFiber Customers

Great news — SmartTown™ is officially live for all FlashFiber customers. This secure community Wi-Fi network gives you reliable connectivity beyond your home, helping you stay connected in the places where life happens.

Check your inbox! Emails are now going out with your SmartTown Passpoint® setup invitation. These messages include everything you need to activate SmartTown on your devices. Be sure to watch for them so you can start connecting as soon as possible.

After three months of successful testing with local First Responders, SmartTown is now ready for you.

What Is SmartTown?

SmartTown is a secure, community-wide Wi-Fi network built by FlashFiber to extend connectivity across Lawrence and Morgan Counties. It works alongside the fiber service you already enjoy at home, giving you access to Wi-Fi in select public areas where cellular networks can become overloaded.

Think:

Wherever SmartTown is available, your devices can connect automatically once set up.

What Is SmartTown?

SmartTown is a managed, secure community Wi-Fi network built on FlashFiber’s lightning-fast, fiber-backed infrastructure.

Unlike public Wi-Fi that’s open to everyone, SmartTown creates segmented, encrypted networks for critical users like first responders, ensuring they always have:

  • ✅ Secure, encrypted connections for mission-critical data
  • ✅ Priority bandwidth for vital apps and communications
  • ✅ Extended coverage in neighborhoods, public spaces, and hard-to-reach zones

Our first responders will soon be able to:

  • Stream live video from the field to hospitals or command centers
  • Access real-time building layouts and emergency data
  • Receive instant updates from dispatch without dead zones

How It Works

SmartTown uses the Calix GigaSpire® Wi-Fi 6 routers already in homes and businesses to create a secure, community-wide mesh network.

Additional outdoor access points in key public areas like parks, fire stations, and municipal spaces extend that coverage—so first responders stay connected everywhere they serve.
