In December 2020, Joe Wheeler EMC (JWEMC) launched FlashFiber internet with the goal of providing all JWEMC members with the best internet service.
Now, more than a year later, FlashFiber has made tremendous progress in reaching this goal. The first members were connected in June 2021 and today, FlashFiber has close to 1,000 subscribers.
However, many members in our area still do not have access to quality internet service. Building a fiber network is not an easy process. It takes a lot of time and resources to construct a network that will last for decades to come.
There are 5 steps needed to bring fiber internet to your home. Over the course of the next few months, we will break down each step to give a glimpse into all it takes to bring FlashFiber to your area.
Mainline Fiber Crew
The first step in building a world-class fiber network is preparing the area for the mainline fiber cable. This cable is at the core of the network that will extend throughout the community, a central connection between the internet and the fiber optic lines that will connect homes and businesses.
Once the prep work is done, the mainline fiber crews will get down to the business of installing these 144-strand cables.
Once the main fiber backbone is complete, crews can then begin branching off into individual neighborhoods and connecting those areas to lightning-fast FlashFiber internet service.
